Freelance costume designer raised in Boise, Idaho, now based in Brooklyn, NY. With 8+ years of experience in the theater industry, Grace is familiar with multiple facets of the theatrical world of costuming, both in design and technical aspects. A love for design has grown from character discovery and collaboration!
Design work comes from a great deal of research, collaboration and passion. The ability to help bring a character to life and put tangibility to a concept is one of the best parts of costuming. It's discovery from both design team and actor, creating a stunning image and experience for others to enjoy; Breathing life into the written words of a story.
Design work has been both as main designer and Assistant Costume Designer, in Boise, Idaho and outside. Worked with multiple companies such as Idaho Shakespeare Festival, Boise State University (Theater and Film Department), HomeGrown Theater Company, and Broadway Rose Theater Company.
Four years working at Boise State University as instructor for Theater Department's sewing lab. Instructed students in hand and machine sewing as well as wardrobe organization and maintenance. Worked as Costume Studio manager and construction coordinator multiple years for both Boise State University and Broadway Rose Theater Company (Tigard, OR)
Familiarity with sewing machines, sergers, cutting and patterns. Ability to do light draping and millinery. Strong skills in organization, labeling, fitting assistance, repairs, garment finishing, alterations, and paperwork creation.
As well as practice in costuming design; behind the scenes Grace has worked as a dresser, makeup artist and hair stylist. Hair and makeup design for plays such as Sweeney Todd, Urinetown, Pirates of Penzance, and The Spongebob Musical.
Styling for shows has ranged from working wardrobe, wig and hair styling, makeup application, and rendering. Not only for Theatre but Film and TV, including continuity checks during filming on wardrobe and prepping for shoots.
